Zuhra Bahman

Zuhra Bahman was born in Kabul Afghanistan where she spent her early years swinging from trees and making snow people. After a stint as a refugee in Pakistan she moved with her family to Northern Afghanistan town of Mazar e Sharef, where she became consciously aware of the beauty of her country and its people.

In 2000 Zuhra moved to London, where she studied for a BA in Law and Anthropology at the LSE and an MA in Conflict, Security and Development at King’s College London. Zuhra is starting wok towards a PhD at the War Studies Department at King’s College London early 2009. Her research focus is on tribal customs and relations in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Zuhra writes both fiction and non fiction. She concentrates on security and social issues in Afghanistan when telling the truth, and when making up stories she likes to take the reader into magical Afghan villages.

Zuhra is fanatical about books and is yet to find a book that is truly useless therefore she runs a small project making libraries for children in Afghanistan and giving them the book bug.

Zuhra’s writing and charity work takes her to Afghanistan several times a year.
