Binayak Sen and the ‘tattered Gandhian dream’

You may recall that we ran a special feature by regular NI contributor Mari Marcel Thekaekara on the worldwide protest to free Dr Binayak Sen – a doctor who works with poor communities in central India and who was arrested on trumped-up charges of ‘terrorism’ by the Indian Government.

The excellent Tehelka English-language Indian weekly has published a powerful piece by Shoma Chaudhury which puts into perspective India’s much vaunted claims to be the world’s largest democracy.

"Binayak Sen will soon be on trial. To continue his imprisonment during this period is to foreclose the space for peaceful protest in India. It is to nurture weapons of mass destruction. It is to invite violent conversations. It is to further rent a tattered Gandhian dream."

Its really bad news for everyone. because he involving in social activities & helping poor people. The government must appoint the equiry commision & take the special interest in this case.
