This Friday - 30 October - it is hands up for learning - Kia Mau Ki Te Whakaako - World Teachers’ Day. To celebrate, the Teachers’ Union - NZEI Te Riu Roa - is bringing a bus load of around 80 or so members from around the South Island, to our school at around 12.15. At 12.30 there will be a countdown and everyone will raise their hands up to show support for learning.

On October 12th funding cuts to ACCs sexual abuse counseling will require survivors of abuse to be diagnosed with a mental injury under the US Diagnostic and Statistical Manual Version 4 (DSM-IV) in order to obtain ACC covered counselling.
This new rule will seriously limit the ways that survivors seek support. Many counsellors who already oppose the rule say they will refuse to do ACC funded counseling if the new rule goes ahead.

On Saturday 12th September, communities nationwide will protest the government decision to cut funding for night classes through schools. The decision by the government to cut 80% funding to school based ACE in 2010 has met widespread criticism with all funding withdrawn and 20% (approximately $3 million) "reinvested" into Numeracy, Literacy, Foundation skills and Sign language - schools are required to compete for funding.
